Allow
me this frivolous empty-headed meditation on the empty nester in summer.
It
is summer, and the heat makes me lose more than a few IQ points. Summer also
means that my kids, not quite children but not quite adults, (though
technically they can vote and sign documents, but that’s another thing) come
and go. I frankly don’t know from one day to the next “who’s for dinner.”
When
they were really kids, and really lived here, it was “what’s for dinner.”
Things change. But only slightly.
One
thing that hasn’t changed is the notion that Mom can be interrupted at any
time, because she is, y’know, MOM.
Not
conducive to meditation, drafting, or any task that requires earnest focus. Heat
doesn’t help, either.
In
other words, these days should be cherished and respected for what they are
good for.

And taking a brain break.
YAY for brain breaks! You deserve one. Wishing you a blessed rest of the summer, dear friend. (And that goes for both ways that can be read.)
ReplyDeleteAhh, if I had a beach nearby, I'd enjoy it, too. (In the shade, wearing long sleeves. I'm allergic to the sun.) A break can be good for your writing.
ReplyDeleteOnce a mom, always a mom! Enjoy your relaxation.
ReplyDeleteMom is the one job that is 24/7. It doesn't matter if you're sick, tired, or busy. Mom is always the one kids run to with the expectation that she'll drop everything for them. My daughter knows she's my world and I'm never too busy or tired for her. She's good about recognizing when I need a break though, too. I'm thankful for that.
ReplyDeleteBrain breaks is needed.But a mom is a mom.Relax :)
ReplyDeleteAnd when they're too far away to stop by for a meal, you'll miss them like crazy!
ReplyDeleteWell said!
DeleteOh enjoy that break, Mirka. It's a blessing to have such distractions. My nieces distract me all the time and I know it's only because I'm fortunate they are in my world. :)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I could SO identify with this post! Then we moved our nest to another country and oh how I miss those drop-ins!
