If you can explain this quotation to me, please do. I’m
still thinking about it.
Some love summer, because less is expected of us in
summer. The pace slows, and for those who take real vacations in other
locations, August is a most likely time.
We dress lightly and do most anything half heartedly.
Even where the heat is oppressive, the image of cool lemonade on a wrap-around
porch is more August than any other. The burdens and undertakings are still a
month away, around the corner, as soon as September peeks.
So put your feet up and allow it to sink in. There’ll
be plenty of time for misery later.
August is probably my favorite month because it's when I finally slip into summer mode. It's also my least favorite month because it means the fall semester is about to start and I need to start planning. I guess that's a certain type of misery. :-)
ReplyDeleteSounds good to me, Mirka! I'll meet you on the porch with some lemonade. :)
ReplyDeleteI'll bring cookies, too.
DeleteMy summer has been turned upside down thanks to construction but I'm doing my best to enjoy it anyway.
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of cookies, Mirka? *checks watch* I think I can get the grocery shopping done in time to stop by.
ReplyDeleteAnd all this time I thought it was my company... ;)
DeleteI'll have to work harder. How about ginger? Or is that too winter?
I saw this quote the other day and decided that this guy did NOT like summer...it definitely made me stop and think, too. I tried sitting on my front porch with a glass of sweet tea the other night, but here in SC, August = MANY mosquitoes. Hopefully September will be more porch friendly! Enjoy the rest of your August, Mirka!
ReplyDeleteAfter an extra long winter, I feel as though summer is flying by way too fast. :(
ReplyDeleteOur August feels like October. It's been in the 50s at night. My tomatoes won't ripen because it's not hot enough. I can't help but think about Halloween. I feel like summer is gone already and there's still plenty of time left.
ReplyDeleteMy summer has been semi-productive. The desire to keep chugging at work is big but the wish to rest is unrelenting, too.
ReplyDeleteI'm also baffled by the quote, but here in Nova Scotia it's sounding and feeling TOO much like fall - since it's only August 11th! Crickets, leaves starting to turn, chilly nights. After last winter, we deserve at least 3 months of summer, IMHO.
