August Days

Nothing much happens in August.

August is when the Parisians leave Paris for calmer grounds.
August is when the well-heeled English go to the country to do little other than drink gin-fizz.
August is when school children sit by the lake and learn to throw stones that will skip the water’s surface. Any other learning will wait.

August is HOT.
I remember coming for a family visit to Israel in the summer of 2005. I was greeted by my sister at the airport, and her second sentence was, “you have a lot of courage to come in August.”

It was hot.

So, dear ones—let your minds rest, let your feet up, and keep the chocolate in the fridge. Don’t struggle; let August be August.

It’s what it is, and then it’s over.

Ummm...depends on where you live. My nieces and nephews in GA and AL started school August 1st. The kids here where I live in KY start the 10th, and, of course, teachers start before that. Summer vacation is already over for oodles of folks in our country. But your sentiment is right. I hope you're enjoying a lazy, daisy day where you are.

Ah, yes! We still have a fortnight left before school starts ... and we're enjoying every minute of being lazy. Hope you are too. V.

Doing my best, Vijaya. Sorry blogger is still insisting you be "Anonymous."

Very HOT here, 90s + high humidity + a/c is very expensive to run, so we can only use it like an hour or so per day. And I'm back to school, too.
However, Korean kids just got out for their 3-4 wk summer break.

It's been unusually cold here lately. More like spring than summer. The humidity has been killer though.

Mirka, here across the bay, in SF, it's freezing cold! So funny.

I'm so glad we got our air conditioning in the condo fixed a few days ago!

August happens to be full of birthdays in our family. (Mine included ;)
But other than that, ugh. I have no use for this month. I am not a hot weather girl, and this is usually the hottest, driest month of the year in my corner of the world.
I just try to get through it until mid-September, when it finally cools off again, and we get my favorite time of year AUTUMN!!!

Yep, in the 90's here in New England, day after day, the hottest summer we've had in a while.
